Letter: Killers | Letters | dailyastorian.com

I had to write and say, "thank you, Sue Taylor," for your letter about outdoor cats! We have neighbors' cats and at least one feral cat that wanders through our yard and garden. I had to put some small fencing around a shrub after I chased a cat out of the shrub stalking my ground feeder birds.

People think their cats need to be outdoors, but it is dangerous! They are much more likely to get eaten by another animal, like the coyotes we have, or get in a fight with other cats, eat something poisonous … and, cats breed at an alarming rate!

My 17-year-old girl has been indoors her entire life. My kitty has windows to look out of, and she’s had a loving, healthy life. Once you get into a routine of cleaning a litter box, it isn’t a big deal. I get paper bags from the produce I purchase, or I buy inexpensive lunch bags. Cats are domesticated pets! They want to be petted, loved and safe. They are not wild animals.

It’s been proven that outdoor cats kill billions of birds every year worldwide. If you think your cat isn’t a killer, think again. Add your cat to all the other outdoor cats in Astoria, and it’s a lot of cats! Thank you again, Sue!

Please folks, show you care, and be a good neighbor, by keeping your cat indoors.
